Solving structural problems by ALVA Architect

How often have we encounted having a structural column in a space where it should not be?

Structure is required to provide stability to a building just like bones are needed to support a human body. But it doesn't mean that it should be instrusive. In a project that we did, the engineer proposed to bring the structure down direct, which would have resulted in a column sticking out of a wall at podium deck.

Our design solution was to have a tie beam to distribute the load and limited the structure at height.

This means that the structure can do its job without encroaching into an apartment unit.

Matej Grozdanovic had a dream. His dream was to build the best computer desk in the world. Even better, he wanted to build a desk that can be used in every scenario -- small rooms, big rooms, cramped rooms. One that will fit even if you move to a new office.

Three years later, the dream is alive, in the form of a Kickstarter campaign for Modulos, the "world's first" modular desk.
